I love helping others; I feel happy when I am able to help someone, whether that be by listening to them talk or connecting them with someone in my network.
I am forever grateful for my new role as family support worker with Adapt Prembabies. I get to meet new people, listen to them and then also help them with their journey through the Neonatal ward.
Current covid regulations mean that parents on the neonatal ward are unable to have visitors or even their other biological children. Having a baby in nicu is an emotional time in the first instance and to then be away from other children and family members is truly hard.
My role is to support the parents, I’m there to listen to their needs, put them in contact with services suitable for the needs and introduce them to further support when out of hospital – and I love it!
